FOUNDERS LODGE SITUATED IN SHAMWARI RESERVE

You are collected from Port Elizabeth Airport and travel to the exclusive and beautiful Founders Carriage Tran Lodge situated in the Shamwari reserve. 

This lovingly restored Railway Carriage known as Founders Lodge, stationed at a siding atop a hill, overlooking a magnificent valley, offers new, exclusive use accommodation in Shamwari. Founder's Lodge is located on a private wildlife sanctuary where numerous species of wildlife such as zebra, giraffe and sable abound. Guests can enjoy guided nature walks on the Reserve as well as daily Big Five game drives on Shamwari Private Game Reserve which lies adjacent to Founders Lodge.

Founders Railway Carriage Lodge has three luxury compartments accommodating a total of five guests. Each tastefully appointed suite overlooks the predator-free Founders Reserve, and the intimate Lodge offers many private areas where couples, families, and individuals can enjoy exclusive spaces to relax. Guests staying on the carriage will have a dedicated staff to set the pace of their holiday – whether that's early morning nature walks, leisurely picnic brunches, lounging by the pool, or late nights around the boma fire. Talented local chefs prepare authentic South African cuisine with locally sourced ingredients and private dinners are served in various locations around the lodge.

The reserve itself offers activities that include sightings of abundant wildlife fauna, and flora exclusive to the area, all promising to be unforgettable encounters. The reserve offers guided open vehicle game drives in the tranquil moods of sunrise and sunset where you can expect to take away new insights in appreciation for Africa. Witness birds of prey or spot one of the Big 5. Not only does the reserve offer spectacular game drives but also professionally guided bush walks where you receive intimate knowledge of the fauna and flora indigenous to the region. Your guide points out animal tracks, dung, and birds. You may see a herd of wild buffalo with tiny ox peckers on their backs. The reserve offers kids and teen safaris too that have facilities such as lounges with snooker tables and big screen TVs should parents want some time off. 

Shamwari is known for sustainable Conservation, which conserves a vanishing way of life as they partake in the best volunteer program in South Africa. They have a wildlife rehabilitation center and a born-free big cat sanctuary.

After 4 days of some of the best-known safari activities, your tour comes to an end with memories that will last you a lifetime.
On the last day after an early morning game drive and delicious breakfast, your driver will collect you to take you to the airport for your flight home.
